The Queensland leg of the Rip Curl GromSearch presented by SNICKERS came to a close with champions crowned today.
Cabarita’s giant slayer Joel Ford (NSW) drew first blood with breath taking top to bottom manoeuvres and precise wave selection, scoring a massive opening 8.5 point ride.
Nipping at Ford’s heels was international Michael February (Cape Town, SAF) answering back with a 5.50 first wave score.
The lead swapped continuously throughout the 20 minute heat with professional surfing demonstrated from all competitors, although Cabarita’s Ford (NSW) was to be victorious in the blue ribbon final amassing a total heat tally of 15.49 (8.5 and a 6.90).
“I dedicate this win to my brother who is hospital at the moment.”
“Everybody here at this event was ripping and I am over the moon to win at home on the Gold Coast,” said Ford.
As a consolation prize of winning the toughest GromSearch competition in the seven event series, Ford (Cabarita NSW) also earns a spot in the national GromSearch final, which takes place on the 29th of March during the Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach Australia.
