Juniors Set For Sunshine Coast Wahu Surfer Groms Comps!
10/1/2010
AS Queensland’s youngest surf stars enjoy their final weeks of summer holidays, close to 100 of the region’s up-and-comers are all set for the Sunshine Coast Wahu Surfer Groms Comp.
Running from January 12-13, the exciting, all-junior affair has divisions catering for the ocean babies in the U/9 parent assisted division, through to some seriously competitive surfing action in the U/15’s.
Surfing Queensland Events Manager Scott Gillies said the event is a great way to begin the 2010 surfing season.
“The Wahu Surfer Groms Comps is a perfect opportunity for mum’s and dad’s to introduce their kids to competitive surfing,” said Gillies.
“After the success of December’s Gold Coast leg of the Wahu series, this week’s event is shaping up as another great few days for some of Queensland’s youngest junior competitors,” he said.
The Sunshine Coast’s Eli Steele will be one to keep an eye on, after he captured the title in last month’s Gold Coast Wahu Surfer Grom Comp and will be one of the blue ribbon U/15 Boys favourites as the event travels to his home town.
Divisions include: U/15 boys and girls, U/13 boys and girls, U/11 boys and girls, U/9 mixed parent assist and U/15 boys and girls divisions for bodyboards.
Based on conditions, the event is mobile across the Sunshine Coast. Competitors and spectators are encouraged to call the Surfing Queensland Event Hotline on Ph# (07) 3030 6388 which will be updated each morning of competition.
The Wahu Surfer Groms Comps is proudly supported by Wahu, Surfing Queensland, Surfing Australia and the Sunshine Coast Regional Council.
