OVER 130 of the world’s best professional junior surfers have converged on the Gold Coast for the start of tomorrow’s 2010’s Grade – 5 Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Hurley Burleigh Pro Junior presented by Nike 6.0.
Based at the famous waves of Burleigh Heads on Queensland’s Gold Coast, The Hurley Burleigh Pro Junior presented by Nike 6.0 is one of the world’s richest and most prestigious professional junior surfing events - boasting a world record USD$25,000 first place cheque for the event’s winner.
Hurley made the extraordinary announcement late last year that the event’s overall winner is set to receive a historic US$25,000 first place carrot as part of a US$50,000 overall event prize-pool.The announcement capped off an incredible year for the international brand, which also included hosting the world’s two richest professional surfing events in history – the World Qualifying Series 6-Star Hurley U.S. Open of Surfing and the ASP World Tour Hurley Pro, which both boasted US$100,000 first place prizes.
The 2010 Hurley Burleigh Pro Junior presented by Nike 6.0 has attracted a stellar field of domestic and international stars including Davey Cathels (Narrabeen, NSW), Mitch Crew (Currumbin, Qld) Chris Friend (Alex Headland, Qld), Chris Salisbury (Newport, NSW), Nat Young (Santa Cruz, USA) and a host of South American, European and Hawaiian competitors.
Jason Haynes from Hurley Australasia Marketing said that offering the world’s richest junior first prize is part of Hurley’s continual support of junior surfing.
“The 2010 Hurley Burleigh Pro Junior is a truly international event and by offering the world’s richest junior first prize as well as a field of the best junior surfers, it will certainly make for a great spectacle throughout the entire event,” said Haynes
The January 22-26 competition window of the 2010 Hurley Burleigh Pro Junior presented by Nike 6.0 will also see the event’s finals conclude amidst the celebrations of Australia’s national day, bolstering the already festival style atmosphere associated with Hurley surfing events.
