Couran Cove Island Resort Pro Begins Tomorrow – The First Professional Surfing Event To Be Held On South Stradbroke Island!

THE third stop of the 2010 Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Australasian Pro Junior Men’s tour is all set to make history as the Couran Cove Island Resort Pro Junior will tomorrow become the first professional surfing event ever to be held in the infamous waves of South Stradbroke Island.

Running from February 1-5, the Grade-4, AUD$20,000, specialty event will offer surfers a never before seen competitive opportunity at a Pro Junior within Australia.

Being run similar to an elite ASP World Championship Tour competition, the Couran Cove Island Resort Pro Junior will be based around a unique ‘island format,’ with the competition designed to give competitors optimal surfing conditions throughout the event’s duration.

Contest Director Scott Gillies said that the Couran Cove Island Resort Pro Junior will differ to other events on the junior tour.

“Unlike other surfing events which typically run from 8am to 4pm, competitors in the Couran Cove Island Resort Pro Junior will be “On-Call” from dawn through to dusk, as we monitor the surfing conditions and place the athletes in the best available waves,” Gillies said.

“On top of the flexibility we’ll have with the event’s schedule, The Couran Cove Island Resort Pro Junior is a historic event being the first of its kind on South Stradbroke Island – a place renowned for world-class beach break waves,” he said.

When the hottest Pro Junior surfers in the world aren’t ripping apart the world-class beach breaks surrounding South Stradbroke Island’s Couran Cove Island Resort, they will be taking full advantage of the myriad of facilities available at the luxury resort.

Competitors will have the option of kicking back in style by the poolside bars or taking part in coordinated activities including tennis, mini-golf, sporting games, yoga and gym classes or for the more adventurous, jet skiing, fishing, wake-boarding and kayaking just to name a few.
