Army Of Grommets Set To Invade For The Gold Coast Wahu Surfer Groms Comps!

QUEENSLAND’S summer has arrived! And, if the sunshine and blue skies wasn’t a sign, an army of up to 100 surfing micro-grommets is sure to turn heads as the Wahu Surfer Groms Comps invade the Gold Coast this weekend.

The exciting, all-junior affair has divisions catering for the ocean babies in the U/9 parent assisted division, through to some seriously competitive surfing action in the U/15’s.

Surfing Queensland Events Manager Scott Gillies said the event is a perfect opportunity for mum’s and dad’s to introduce their kids to a professionally run surfing competition.

“The Wahu Surfer Groms Comps not only offer a family orientated environment, but they also provide some of the youngest competitive age divisions in any Surfing Queensland junior event,” said Gillies.

“Wahu have embraced one of our core aims which is to provide ample, high quality avenues for junior development within surfing and that is great to see,” he said.  

Wahu’s National Sales Director Darren Round is equally excited, adding that the event will also provide plenty of action out of the water.

“We are sure to see great crowds…and during the breaks in competition there’s going to be some really big games of Wahu Cricket, Wahu Soccer and Footy,” he said.

Divisions include: U/15 boys and girls, U/13 boys and girls, U/11 boys and girls, U/9 mixed parent assist and U/15 boys and girls divisions for bodyboards.

Based on conditions, the event is mobile across the Gold Coast. Competitors and spectators are encouraged to call the Surfing Queensland Event Hotline on Ph# (07) 3030 6388 which will be updated each morning of competition.
